Chisomo Centre, Zambia

OpenArch are delighted to be supporting the Chisomo Centre in Zambia.  The centre offers a safe haven for children living on the street, 40% of whom have lost one or both parents.  Whilst the majority are not orphans, many have found themselves on the street due to a mix of problems including poverty, abuse and lack of education.  OpenArch has purchased 20 bunk beds for the Makeni shelter, which will be made by a company local to the area, and will provide 40 children with a bed to sleep in.

In addition, OpenArch have commited to support one child, through a sponsorship programme which will cover the cost of his accommodation at the shelter, clothing, food and education. J, seen on the left of the picture, has regularly dropped in at the centre.  He is very serious about wanting to leave the streets and go into the shelter, and has recently received his school uniform and is now attending school.  J is very committed and wish him every success.  Updates on his progress will be posted in the future.
