EPC - What do we do as commercial landlords?

EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates) indicate how efficient a building is using ratings from A to G, with A being the most efficient.  On 1 April 2018, the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards for commercial properties have come into force in England and Wales.  The minimum energy standard is now set at E, which means that commercial property with an EPC rating of F or G will require improvement before a lease can be granted.

Exemptions are granted for commercial properties to reach the minimum rating if the improvement measures are not cost effective, permissible or appropriate.

We at OpenArch have already carried out improvement works on some commercial properties to bring them up to or above E rating and we will continue to carry out appropriate improvement to ensure our properties are energy efficient.
